- AI Will Make Us Communicate More Together

For four decades, Unimicro has pursued the goal of creating the simplest accounting system. Now, they stand on the threshold of a new era, where artificial intelligence will make financial management even easier. Together with partners like Kravia, they demonstrate how openness and technology create better solutions for everyone.

Imagine opening your accounting system on your phone and, instead of menus and buttons, being met with a single question: “How can I help you today?”

This is not a distant dream. It is the vision Kjartan Solvi, CEO of Unimicro, is working to realize. For him, artificial intelligence is the next logical step in a nearly 40-year journey that has always focused on one thing: making accounting simpler.

“The vision has been the same since the beginning in 1986. You should only need to look at one number to understand how things are going. With AI, we are closer to that goal than ever,” he says.

The Pursuit of the Simplest System

This pursuit of improvement has led the company to rebuild its accounting systems no fewer than four times—from the early days of computing to today’s cloud platform.

“Why? First and foremost, because we always believe we can do things a little better. We’ve learned something new every time, and that experience is the foundation of everything we build today,” Kjartan explains.

Now, artificial intelligence is driving development. In 2026, Unimicro will launch Mikro, the company’s first AI assistant—a digital helper that not only reminds you of tasks, but can perform them for you.

“Mikro can post vouchers, credit invoices, and generate reports. The system will know your business and guide you through processes. AI shouldn’t be a gimmick, but provide real value,” says Kjartan.

The first customers have already begun testing. Now it’s about listening, adjusting, and learning—so that AI becomes a tool that genuinely makes everyday life easier.

“AI Will Make Us Communicate More Together”

With robots entering the accounting industry, many fear for the future of accountants. Kjartan believes the opposite: humans will become even more important.

“The accountant won’t disappear, but the role will change. AI takes over routine work, freeing up time for advisory services, oversight, and collaboration. It’s a paradox, but I truly believe AI will make us talk more,” he says.

He explains that when time-consuming routine tasks vanish, both business owners and accountants gain more time to discuss what truly matters—how the business can grow and succeed.

Openness as a Competitive Advantage

For the systems of the future to function, one thing is crucial: collaboration.

When Unimicro began developing its cloud platform in 2015, the entire architecture was built on the principle of total openness.

“We decided that the system should be just as open to partners as it is to us. We built everything with open APIs that allow other systems to listen to everything that happens—whether an invoice is created, overdue, or paid,” Kjartan says.

This openness is the very foundation of their ecosystem and enables partners to create seamless and powerful integrations.

“We believe the best solutions are created when you dare to share and have a clear collaboration strategy,” he says.

A Partnership Built on Shared Values

Unimicro has many partners in its ecosystem, but Kravia is highlighted as a company that has challenged and inspired them from day one.

“I remember when Kravia was founded. They talked about debt collection and technology in a completely new way, with a strong focus on customer experience—not just the numbers. They were clear that they needed strong integrations and thought about collaboration from day one. It was inspiring,” he says.

Through the integration, joint customers get full real-time visibility. According to Kjartan, it’s about letting the technology work in the background so everyday life becomes easier for the user.

“It all happens seamlessly, and that’s how we like to work. The way Kravia has taken a position in the market by enabling others to succeed has been impressive to watch.”

Kravia: Openness That Enables Synergy

“We saw that traditional players worked with closed systems, manual processes, and little understanding of customer experience. For many, debt collection became something handled late—or not at all. For accountants and end customers, it felt cumbersome and non-transparent. We wanted to change that,” says Svein Ove Kvalsund, Group CEO of Kravia.

“That’s why we built Kravia as an open platform that connects the value chain—from invoice to payment.”

“We wanted to combine technology, customer experience, and culture, and create a partner that accountants, systems, and end customers actually enjoy working with,” he continues.

Collaboration That Elevates an Entire Industry

The collaboration with Unimicro shows that Kravia chose the right direction.

“Unimicro has proven that openness works. They have created a platform that allows niche players like us to integrate seamlessly. This elevates the entire industry—because accountants get an ecosystem around them, not just a system. Together, we show that collaboration and insights create real value for customers,” says Benedikte Rasmussen, CCO at Kravia.

“AI is not a goal in itself, but a tool that gives us more time to be human. When technology handles the numbers, we get more time to talk,” she concludes.

Two West Coast Companies – One Shared Goal

“When two West Coast companies with a passion for technology, innovation, and people come together, magic happens!” says Anja Kleiven Sætre, Head of Executive Sales at Unimicro.

She explains that the collaboration with Kravia is about more than integrations and technology. It’s about culture, shared values—and the desire to make customers’ lives a little easier.

“Together with Kravia, we show how AI and smart solutions can make everyday life a bit simpler. At the same time, we share a passion for strong partnerships, industry development—and, not least, the people behind the numbers,” she says.

For Anja, it’s also the human element that makes the partnership special.

“That’s why it’s especially fun to collaborate with partners like Kravia, where genuine enthusiasm and joy shine through in everything they do,” she says.

Together, Unimicro and Kravia show how technology, collaboration, and openness can make accounting more human.

When systems talk to each other, the numbers gain meaning—and people gain more time to do what they actually care about. That’s not just the future of accounting. It’s the future of work.
